Calgary Flames allowing former GM Brad Treliving to speak to NHL Clubs
It looks like the Calgary Flames are re-evaluating their approach and letting teams talk to former GM Brad Treliving.
As Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported today, the Flames have appeared to allow Treliving talk with teams about potential jobs, just days after it was reported that the team wouldn’t let that happen until after his deal concluded on June 30.
According to reports in mid-April, Treliving’s deal was set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season and was given an offer from the Flames to stay. The two sides elected to mutually split, ending Treliving’s near-decade-long stint as GM.

Ahem, an important development with #LeafsForever news.
Treliving took over the Flames’ general manager position in 2014-15 after spending seven seasons as an assistant with the Arizona Coyotes.
Last summer, following the emotional departure of Johnny Gaudreau, he executed the deal to send Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar. He negotiated an eight-year 84 million contract extension with Hubderdeau shortly after the trade. Trelving would then sign Stanley Cup champion Nazem Kadri to a seven-year, $49 million contract. Going into the 2023-24 season, the Flames have $1.25 million in cap space, according to CapFriendly.
The Flames missed the playoffs this season for the fourth time while Trelving has been in the general manager’s seat, posting a 37-27-17 record.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are not the only team who is searching for a new GM for the 2023-24 season. The Toronto Maple Leafs fired Kyle Dubas on May 19, making Treliving’s future career prospects that much more interesting.
