The Calgary Flames have recalled goaltender Dustin Wolf from the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers, with the team’s No. 1 goaltender Jacob Markstrom out day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Markstrom left Flames’ practice early on Monday, with the full extent of his injuries unknown at this time. The Swedish goaltender has been a valuable player for Calgary this year, posting 13-11-2 with a .912 save percentage while doing everything possible to keep the Flames in the playoff picture.

Markstrom previously missed one game due to illness back in late November before suffering a finger fracture in December, an ailment that kept him out for seven games.

Wolf, 22, has been one of the best goaltending prospects in the game this season. Drafted 214th overall by Calgary in 2019, Wolf has a 16-6-1 record with four shutouts and a .929 save percentage in 23 games with the Wranglers. Wolf also has a 2-2-1 record in six NHL games over the past two seasons, with his lone win this season coming in a 28-save effort against Carolina on Dec. 7.

Wolf was named AHL goaltender of the year the past two seasons, highlighted by his incredible 42-10-2 record with seven shutouts and a .932 save percentage last year. Prior to turning pro, Wolf was named top goaltender in the WHL in consecutive years.

The Flames are currently on the outside looking in in the playoff fight, sitting fourth in the Western Conference wild-card race with 45 points – two behind their Albertan rivals from Edmonton for the final spot. The Flames are 6-4-0 over the past 10 games while riding a three-game winning streak, which is the scond best active streak in the West behind the Oilers.

Calgary will host the Arizona Coyotes at 9:00 PM ET today before welcoming Toronto to town on Thursday. The Flames will look to put a dent on Edmonton’s playoff push in the next iteration of the Battle of Alberta this Saturday.
