Calgary Flames reporter Eric Francis has reported that defenseman Chris Tanev will miss Tuesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Tanev took a hard hit in last night’s 6-5 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Avs’ forward Ross Colton plastered Tanev into the boards. Tanev was down and in discomfort but got up quickly and made his way down the tunnel.

He logged just 0:15 seconds of ice time and would not return.

The 33-year-old has tallied one goal and seven points in 28 games while racking up 65 blocked shots and 11 hits averaging 18:39 minutes of ice time.

Tanev has had a history of injuries throughout his career. In 2019 while with the Vancouver Canucks, he suffered a season-ending ankle injury. A shoulder injury forced him to miss four games during the Flames’ 2022 playoff run and in May 2022, he underwent surgery for a torn labrum. Tanev also missed time during the 2022-23 season with upper body-related injuries.

During the 2021-22 campaign, he registered a career-high six goals and 22 assists for 28 points in 82 games. He recorded one assist and 19:34 of ice time in eight playoff games with the Flames. Throughout his career with the Canucks and Flames he has collected 32 goals and 146 assists for 178 points in 745 games spanning a 14-year career.

This is Tanev’s fourth season with the Flames organization. In October 2020, he signed a four-year $18 million contract that holds an average annual value (AAV) of $4.5 million. He is in the final year of the deal and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

No other update for Tanev was provided, it is expected he will only miss tonight’s game against Vegas and could draw back into the lineup as early as Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
