Flames’ Kevin Bahl out week-to-week with upper-body injury
When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska revealed that defenseman Kevin Bahl is considered out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Ryan Huska just told us that defenceman Kevin Bahl is week-to-week with an upper body injury.#Flames have had eight defencemen on their roster all season and that depth will come in handy.
— Derek Wills (@Fan960Wills) January 29, 2025It hasn’t been disclosed what exactly is ailing Bahl or when he was hurt. The 24-year-old was kept out of the lineup on Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets, in which Calgary lost 5-2. Bahl also missed Tuesday’s game against the Washington Capitals, which saw the Flames fall by a score of 3-1.
With Bahl coming off the top pair alongside Rasmus Andersson, Joey Hanley has seen elevated playing time over the past two games after being moved to the No. 1 pair. It has opened up a spot for veteran blueliner Tyson Barrie, who has been seen on the third pair next to Brayden Pachal.
Bahl had played the first 47 games for the Flames before getting injured. He was acquired by the team, along with a first-round pick, in the trade that sent Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils this past summer. So far, with his new team, the New Westminster, British Columbia native has scored two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, already setting career highs in each offensive category. He last found the back of the net on Jan. 14 against the St. Louis Blues.
In 195 career games, Bahl has notched six goals and 33 assists for 39 points, posting an assist in 11 games with the Devils during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Flames (24-18-7) are at home in six of their next seven games. They host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night before welcoming the Detroit Red Wings to town on Saturday. Calgary is fourth in the Pacific Division, sitting one point ahead of the Vancouver Canucks for the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
