The Calgary Flames have gotten off to a surprisingly hot start in 2024-25, going 4-0-0 and winning those four games by a combined score of 19 to 10.

While many expected the Flames to be a rebuilding team this season, the winning streak to start the year has some wondering if they’re better than expected and if it’s worth pursuing another player to round up the lineup.

Daily Faceoff hockey insider and Sports on Prime contributor Frank Seravalli appeared on NHL Coast to Coast Thursday night to discuss whether the Flames will add any pieces to their lineup as the season goes on.

“A lot of people were expecting at some point this year, with all the names that have been out the door last year, they might be moving on from guys,” Seravalli said. “It’s actually quite the opposite.

“(There’s) not usually much trade activity to start a season,” he continued, “but I’m told Flames General Manager Craig Conroy has been working the phones in recent days to try and find a center to add to the Calgary Flames in their middle-six, preferably someone that fits their age scheme, preferably if at all possible in a perfect world, a right-shooting center at that.”

The Flames next game is Saturday night when they travel to Washington State to take on the Seattle Kraken.

Last season, the Flames finished with a 38-39-5 record and 81 points, fifth in the Pacific Division and tied for 24th in the league standings. They would end up with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, taking defenseman Zayne Parekh out of the Ontario Hockey League’s Saginaw Spirit.
