Calgary Flames re-sign center Clark Bishop to two-year contract
The Calgary Flames announced that they have re-signed center Clark Bishop to a two-year contract extension. Bishop, 27, played 64 AHL games with the Calgary Wranglers last season, scoring 11 goals and recording 12 assists for a total of 23 points.
The two-year contract extension has an annual average value of $775k and is a two-way deal. The deal will pay Bishop $275k per year while he’s in the AHL with minimum salaries of $300k in 2023-24 and $325k in 2024-25.
Bishop was originally drafted in the 5th round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes. He played his junior hockey career with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL and hails originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Bishop has also appeared in 47 NHL games across parts of four seasons, scoring one goal and adding seven assists at the highest level.
Bishop brings back a strong veteran presence to the Flames organization
With more than 300 games of professional hockey experience under his belt, Bishop gives the Flames a veteran presence that can help solidify their AHL team. While he’s not expected to be a regular NHL contributor, Bishop can be called up in a pinch and play either center or both wings.
He’s a left-handed forward that stands 6’0 and weighs 195 pounds. This past season was his first cracking the 10 goal mark in the AHL, something he managed to do in just 64 games.
The Calgary Wranglers were eliminated in the third round of this year’s Calder Cup playoffs. They lost to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the current leaders in the Calder Cup finals who need just two more victories to win the whole thing.
The Wranglers are expected to be contenders again next year. This past season, they won the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy awarded to the team with the best AHL regular season record and Bishop played a significant role in that success.
