Calgary Flames re-sign forward Yegor Sharangovich to five-year contract
The Calgary Flames have signed forward Yegor Sharangovich to a five-year contract extension, his agent, Dan Milstein, tweeted on Monday morning.
Sharangovich, 26, set career highs with 31 goals, 28 assists, and 59 points in 82 games with the Flames during the 2023-24 season. The Flames originally acquired him from the New Jersey Devils last June in exchange for forward Tyler Toffoli, with Calgary also receiving a 2023 third-round pick in the deal.
According to Milstein, Sharangovich’s new contract with the Flames carries a $5.75 million cap hit. His previous deal, worth $3.1 million per year, runs through the end of the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Sharangovich became newly eligible to sign an extension with the Flames as soon as free agency opened on July 1. He had been eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025; now, the Flames retain his rights until 2030.
The Devils originally selected Sharangovich in the fifth round (No. 141 overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. The Minsk, Belarus product made his NHL debut with the Devils in the 2020-21 season and immediately established himself as a capable scorer, collecting 40 goals in 130 games over his first two years in the league.
After a down year in 2022-23, the Devils flipped Sharangovich to the Flames to obtain Toffoli, who was a pending UFA. While Sharangovich thrived with the Flames in 2023-24, the Devils ended up flipping Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets at the trade deadline.
Through 287 career games over four NHL seasons with New Jersey and Calgary, the 6’2″ Sharangovich has collected 84 goals and 165 points. He’s also skated in three playoff games in his career but failed to record a point.
Sharangovich spent much of his first season with the Flames playing his natural center position, although he also returned to the wing at points. On Monday, the Flames brought in a new winger to replace the recently-traded Andrew Mangiapane, signing Anthony Mantha to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
