Calgary Flames recall Dustin Wolf as Jacob Markstrom out day-to-day

The Calgary Flames announced that they have recalled goaltender Dustin Wolf from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Calgary Wranglers, goaltender Jacob Markstrom is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The 34-year-old last played in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, Markstrom played the full 60-minutes stopping 26 out of 31 shots against.

Markstrom has compiled a 22-17-2 record, 2.68 goals against average and a .910 save percentage through 41 games this season. According to Moneypuck.com, Markstrom ranks fourth among goals saved above expected with 16.1. Markstrom previously missed one game due to an illness back in late November before suffering a finger fracture in December, an ailment that kept him out for seven games. He again missed time in January with a lower-body injury.

Wolf has posted a 2.43 goals against average and a .923 save percentage with the Wranglers this season. He ranks fifth among AHL goalies in wins with a 20-11-3 record. The 22-year-old has appeared in six games with the Flames posting a 1-3-1 record. Wolf has been one of the best goaltending prospects in the game this season according to Daily Faceoff Prospect analyst Steven Ellis.

During the 2022-23 season, the 2019 seventh-round draft pick put together a 42-10-2 record and a .932 save percentage in 55 appearances. He led the AHL in wins, shutouts, GAA and save percentage. His stellar performance earned him the AHL Best Goaltender Award for a second consecutive season and the AHL Most Valuable Player Award. Wolf led all AHL goalies in wins, save percentage, goals-against average and seven shutouts.

The Flames host the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night, while it is unconfirmed on DailyFaceoff.com, watch for Dan Vladar to get the start tonight for the Flames.
