Calgary Flames sign Dan Vladar to two-year contract extension
The Calgary Flames have signed goaltender Dan Vladar to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Thursday afternoon.
Vladar, 25, posted a 13–6–2 record and a .906 save percentage in 23 games with the Flames during the 2021–22 regular season.
The Prague, Czechia product stopped 26 of 29 shots in a 4–3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 15. His new contract with the Flames carries a $2.2 million NHL cap hit.
The Boston Bruins originally selected Vladar in the third round (No. 75 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. The 6’5″, 209-pound goaltender appeared in five games with the Bruins during the 2020–21 regular season, going 2–2–1 with an .886 save percentage.
Vladar primarily played with the American Hockey League’s Providence Bruins during his time in Boston’s organization. Over parts of five AHL seasons in Providence, Vladar posted a 36–26–17 record and a .917 save percentage in 78 games.
The Flames acquired Vladar from the Bruins in July 2021 in exchange for a 2021 third-round draft selection, which was ultimately moved to the Seattle Kraken (who used it to pick Ben MacDonald).
Vladar is signed through the end of the 2022–23 season at a $750,000 NHL cap hit. His new deal will kick in next season, at which point the Flames will have Vladar ($2.2 million) and Jacob Markstrom ($6 million) on the books for a total of $8.2 million.
Beyond Vladar and Markstrom, the Flames have reigning American Hockey League goaltender of the year Dustin Wolf playing for the Calgary Wranglers. Wolf will remain on his entry-level contract until the end of the 2023–24 season.
