Calgary Flames sign Martin Frk to one-year contract

On Monday, the Calgary Flames announced that the club has signed forward Martin Frk to a one-year contract.

The deal will be a one-year, two-way contract with an average annual value of $775,000.

In his pro career, Frk has played 124 NHL games over six seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings. The 30-year-old has tallied 41 points (20 goals, 21 assists) and a minus-32 rating in that time.

After being drafted by Detroit in the second round (No. 49) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frk was claimed off waivers and finally made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes in 2016-17. He had no points in two games that season and was re-claimed off waivers by Detroit. His next season would be his best, as Frk played in a career-high 68 games with the Red Wings in 2017-18. He finished with 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists).

In his most recent NHL season in 2021-22, the Czechia native scored two goals in six games with the Kings. He has yet to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Frk has spent most of his career in the American Hockey League. Since turning pro, the scoring winger has recorded 317 points (167 goals, 150 assists) in 403 AHL games. One of his best seasons came in 2016-17 when he finished with 50 points in 65 games and added 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 16 playoff games to help the Grand Rapids Griffins capture a Calder Cup championship. He also won the Memorial Cup and Gilles Courteau Trophy (QMJHL Championship) as a member of the Halifax Mooseheads in 2012-13.

Frk spent all of 2023-24 playing for SC Bern and SC Rapperswil-Jona in Switzerland. He tallied 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 33 games.
