Flames sign Owen Say to one-year contract

The Calgary Flames announced Monday that the club has signed goaltender Owen Say to a one-year, two-way contract to begin in the 2025-26 season.
Through 27 appearances this season with the NCAA’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the 6-foot-2 netminder went 10-15-0 with a .920 save percentage and 2.82 goals-against average. Prior to joining the Fighting Irish, Say spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Mercyhurst Lakers. As a freshman, Say was named to the AHA’s All-Rookie Team after he went 4-6-0 with a .903 save percentage and 3.39 goals-against average. The following year, Say was recognized as part of the AHA’s Third All-Conference Team after he posted an 8-17-4 record with a .913 save percentage and 3.22 goals-against average through 31 appearances. In all, through his three seasons in the collegiate ranks, Say went 22-38-4 with a .914 save percentage and 3.09 goals-against average.
Prior to beginning his college career, the 23-year-old native of London, Ont., spent two seasons with the BCHL’s Salmon Arm Silverbacks. In 2021-22, Say was named the BCHL’s Top Goaltender after he went 23-10-6 with a .923 save percentage and 2.44 goals-against average with three shutouts. That spring, Say then won five of 12 postseason appearances in which he notched a .908 save percentage with a 3.08 goals-against average. Over his two seasons in the BCHL, Say totaled a 30-16-9 career record with a .918 save percentage, 2.55 goals-against average, and three shutouts.
Per PuckPedia, Say becomes one of three goaltenders under NHL contract with the Flames next season joining starter Dustin Wolf as well as Devin Cooley, currently with the AHL affiliated Calgary Wranglers. Elsewhere, veteran netminder Dan Vladar can become an unrestricted free agent, while Waltteri Ignatjew and Connor Murphy, who earlier in March signed with the Flames for the balance of the current campaign, are pending restricted free agents.
