Calgary Flames sign William Stromgren to three-year entry-level contract
The Calgary Flames have signed winger William Stromgren to a three-year entry level deal.
With this signing, Stromgren has also agreed to an amateur tryout, and will report to the Flames AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, on Thursday.
There are currently no details on the specifics of the deal outside of the length. With Stromgren reporting to the Wranglers on an ATO, his ELC will not take effect until the start of next season, and will run until 2025-26.
Stromgren is signing out of the SHL, where he scored three goals, five assists, and eight points in 45 games for Brynas IF Gavle, as well as one assist in five games during the best-of-seven relegation series against the Malmo Redhawks, which Brynas lost 4-1 and was relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan. He also had an assist in seven games for Sweden at the 2023 World Juniors.
Stromgren was also loaned to Rogle BK J20 where he had a hat trick in one game, and he also played a game with Brynas IF J20, where he had a goal and two assists.
Stromgren was the second round pick for the Flames in the 2021 draft, selected 45th overall. He had spent his draft year with MODO Hockey Ornskoldsvik in the Sweden 1st Division league, where he had three goals, six assists, and nine points in 27 games, along with 14 games in the Swedish Junior league where he had 10 goals, 8 assists, and 18 points. He followed that up with six games for Rogle BK Angleholm in 2021-22, where he had no points, and 44 games for Rogle BK J20 where he had 13 goals, 23 assists, and 36 points.
Daily Faceoff’s prospects expert Steven Ellis had this to say about Stromgren:
“Stromgren is a quick skater and has a nice 6-foot-3 frame. He sees the ice well and if he happens to outrace his linemates, he still finds a way to make something happen. He projects to be a hard-working bottom-six forward.”
Stromgren is Calgary’s second college/European signing during this stage of the season when college and European teams are done for the year, also signing Matthew Coronato on Sunday. They still have seven players on their reserve list that they need to sign by either June 1st or August 15th before they lose the rights to those players.
