The Calgary Flames and their top American Hockey League affiliate made a handful of injury-related transactions on Friday.

First, the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers announced that forward Connor Zary is out week-to-week after undergoing successful knee surgery. The 25-year-old forward has sat out the past two games with what the Wranglers previously termed a lower-body injury.

Additionally, the Flames have placed goaltender Devin Cooley on the injured reserve list after he sustained a lower-body injury during Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Meanwhile, Flames forward Brennan Othmann is now considered day-to-day after sustaining an upper-body injury in a fight with Oilers defenseman Ty Emberson.

The Flames recalled goaltender Arsenii Sergeev and forward William Stromgren from the Wranglers on Friday morning to make up for the losses of Cooley and Othmann, respectively.

Cooley started five consecutive games in goal for the Flames before leaving Wednesday’s contest after one period. He was replaced by Dustin Wolf, who is expected to start Friday’s game against the Seattle Kraken at the Scotiabank Saddledome; Sergeev will serve as his backup.

With Othmann unavailable for Friday’s game, Maxim Tsyplakov is expected to return to the lineup after sitting out the previous five games as a healthy scratch; furthermore, according to QR Calgary’s Pat Steinberg, Stromgren and Joel Hanley will sit out against Seattle.

Zary has spent most of the season to date with the Wranglers after being waived by the Flames on Oct. 5. He went unclaimed by the league’s other 31 teams and was assigned to the AHL the following day. In six games with the Wranglers this year, Zary has collected one goal and four assists.

Fuelled largely by Cooley’s stellar play, which earned him a nod as the NHL’s second star of the week ending Oct. 25, the Flames won four consecutive games before losing 4-0 in Edmonton on Wednesday. They’re slated to take to the ice on Friday at 6:00 p.m. as the Kraken make their final visit to the Saddledome.
