Hockey Canada has announced its 22-man roster for the upcoming Hlinka Gretzky Cup which is set for Aug. 5-10 in Edmonton, Alberta.
In total, 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders were selected.
Canada, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland will compete in Group A. USA will compete alongside Czechia, Finland, and Germany in Group B at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Among the players selected include 2026 top prospect Gavin McKenna and 2025 prospects Cole Reschny, Jake O’Brien, Matthew Schaefer, Jake Ivankovic and Emile Guite.
McKenna is coming off an explosive season with the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he tallied 34 goals and 63 assists for 97 points. The Whitehorse, Yukon product also set the record for the most points by a Canadian at the Under-18 Men’s World Championship with 16.
Reschny is another top player who has international experience with Canada as he registered eight points in seven games with Canada Red at the 2023-24 Under-17 World Hockey Championships alongside McKenna. That squad also featured Jake O’Brien, Liam Killfoil, Jackson Smith, Peyton Kettles, Quinn Beauchesne, Reese Hamilton, Braeden Cootes, Luca Romano and Brady Martin, all who were named to the Hlinka Gretzky roster.
Canada has won back-to-back gold medals at the last two installments of the tournament and look to claim a third straight. Canada has won 25 gold medals at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup since its birth in 1992.
Canada opens up the tournament on August 5th against Switzerland, they face Slovakia on August 6th, and Sweden on August 9th in the last preliminary game before the quarterfinals.
