Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin announced on Monday that the club has hired Jason Krog as their skills and skating coach.

Krog will serve as the skills and skating coach for both the Vancouver Canucks and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks.

The 48-year-old played 202 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Rangers and Canucks. The British Columbia native signed as an undrafted free-agent forward with New York in 1999 and finished his career with 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists). Krog also tallied four points (three goals, one assist) in three playoff games with the Mighty Ducks in 2003.

He spent most of his professional career in the American Hockey League, skating in 534 AHL games and finishing as the captain of the Chicago Wolves.

Before turning pro, Krog played four full seasons of college hockey at the University of New Hampshire in Hockey East. In 152 NCAA games, the Wildcats captain racked up 238 points (94 goals, 144 assists). In his final season in 1999, he won the Hobey Baker Award as the best player in college hockey.

After moving over to play in Europe and eventually retiring in 2017, Krog found his way back into the hockey world and spent the 2023-24 season as a hockey advisor for Simon Fraser University. The Red Leafs men’s team finished 5-8-2 playing in the British Columbia Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League.

Krog’s hiring comes soon after some other coaching news for the Vancouver Canucks. On Wednesday, Vancouver made several moves, promoting Yogi Švejkovský to assistant coach, Ian Beckenstein from the AHL to video coach of the NHL club and upgrading and increasing the day-to-day roles of former Canucks forwards and Hall of Famers Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
