The Vancouver Canucks announced Friday that forward Elias Pettersson has been placed on injured reserve (IR), retroactive to Dec. 23, 2024.

The club has also recalled goaltender Arturs Silovs from their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, on an emergency basis.

Pettersson was hurt during the Canucks’ last game prior to the holiday break. In a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 23, he was reportedly banged up in the second period before leaving the game entirely after just one shift in the third.

“I don’t think it’s too bad,” Canucks’ Head Coach Rick Tocchet said on Dec. 23.

Tocchet then told reporters Dec. 29 that Pettersson was “a week away” and was expected to return to the lineup

The Canucks’ forward has 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points while averaging 19:08 of ice time in 34 games this season. His 2.6 points-per-60 (PTS/60) is tied for the lowest of his career.

Now in his seventh NHL season, the 26-year-old Pettersson has 180 goals and 260 assists for 440 points in 441 career games. The 6-foot-2 center has also played in 30 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points.

The Canucks are 18-11-8 with 44 points, fourth in the Pacific Division and currently holding on to the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Captain Quinn Hughes leads the team in scoring with 42 points (eight goals and 34 assists). Forward Jake DeBrusk leads the way with 16 goals, followed closely by Brock Boeser and his 14 goals.
