Canucks sign Derek Forbort, Danton Heinen and Kiefer Sherwood
Vancouver Canucks have been busy on Canada Day signing defenseman Derek Forbort and forwards Danton Heinen and Kiefer Sherwood to contracts.
Forbort is signing a one-year. $1.5 million contract. The defenseman spent the 2023-24 campaign with the Boston Bruins where he appeared in 35 games notching four assists.
Over the past couple of seasons, Forbort has had multiple injuries that have kept him out for a number of games. A finger injury, that required surgery, held the former Los Angeles King out for 11 games in November of 2022. Then, in March of 2023, Forbort suffered a lower-body injury, leading him to miss the rest of the regular season. He again dealt with injuries this season, appearing in just 35 games. Canucks fans will also know Forbort for the “attack” on Nils Hoglander.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Danton Heinen on a 2-year contract with a $2.25M AAV.

The Langley, British Columbia product notched 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 74 games with the Boston Bruins. This will be Heinen’s third NHL team after stints with Pittsburgh and Anaheim as well. Through 487 career games, Heinen has tallied 87 goals and 125 assists for 212 points.
Sherwood is signing a 2-year contract with a $1.5M AAV. He notched 27 points and 41 penalty minutes in 68 games during the 2023-24 campaign with the Nashville Predators.
“We saw first hand in the playoffs how tough Kiefer is to play against,” said Allvin. “We like his quickness, tenacity, and the way he competes in all situations. Adding another physical player to the mix will work well with the way our forward group is currently constructed.”
Vancouver also has signed goaltender Jiri Patera to a two-year, two-way contract.
