One of the Vancouver Canucks’ top blueliners had a premature end to his night on Friday. Just over a minute into the team’s matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers, Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was involved in an awkward collision with Flyers forward Joel Farabee.

Myers attempted to pinch Farabee in the offensive zone, and the two fell to the ice together. Myers looked to have his left ankle twisted underneath Farabee, and the 6-foot-8 veteran lay on the ice and had to be helped off by training staff.

The Canucks later released that Myers was not going to return to the game, though the team didn’t disclose the injury. He was credited with just 36 seconds of ice time.

It was Myers and the Canucks’ second game of the season. The 34-year-old played 19:38 of ice time during Vancouver’s 6-5 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night and was a minus-1.

Myers suffered a lower-body injury during last year’s playoffs, missing one game during Vancouver’s first-round series against the Nashville Predators. He went on to play the remainder of the team’s games, as the Canucks were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the Pacific Division Final.

Myers entered the 2024-25 season after signing a three-year contract extension in the offseason. The deal carries a $3 million AAV through the 2026-27 season. It came after Myers finished playing through his five-year contract that he signed with the Canucks in July 2019.

Myers has been a mainstay on the Vancouver blueliner over the past six seasons and has helped the team make it to the franchise’s last two postseason appearances. In 997 NHL games, including stops with the Buffalo Sabres and Winnipeg Jets, Myers has scored 93 goals and 278 assists for 371 points. He has also scored 16 points in 61 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
