Capitals place Lars Eller on Injured Reserve, recall Henrik Rybinski from AHL

The Washington Capitals announced Saturday that forward Lars Eller has been placed on Injured Reserve (IR), and the club has recalled forward Henrik Rybinski from the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.

Through 16 games with the Capitals, Eller, 35, has two goals and four assists for six points. He was traded to Washington by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 12, and in 17 games with his former club this season, he scored four goals and had three assists for seven points, giving him six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 2024-25.

Now in his 16th NHL season, Eller has 184 goals and 231 assists for 415 points in 1,069 regular-season games with the Penguins, Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues.

Eller has also played in 103 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 15 goals and 34 assists for 49 points. He helped the Capitals win the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Rybinski has six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 28 games with the Bears. He currently ranks second on the team in assists and third in points. The Vancouver, B.C., native had five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 52 games last season, as well as five goals and four assists for nine points in 19 Calder Cup playoff games, helping the Bears win a championship.

The Capitals are 22-8-2 with 46 points, first in the Metropolitan Division and second in the entire league. They’re 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Their next game is Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Kings. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT.
