Carolina Hurricanes’ Antti Raanta expected to back-up Tuesday, Frederik Andersen should be healthy for the playoffs
The Carolina Hurricanes goaltender woes appear to be coming to an end at this moment, as their goalie tandem of Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta both will be returning soon, according to Hurricanes beat reporter Sara Civian of the Athletic.
Andersen has been out since April 16, when he sustained an injury during a game against the Colorado Avalanche. Initially they weren’t sure how long-term the injury was, but it appears that he will be back for a playoff run with the team.
Raanta seemed to sustain an injury in Sunday night’s game against the New York Islanders, and left early in discomfort. It caused some panic amongst Hurricanes fans with both Andersen and Raanta out, but Raanta will now be back Tuesday night and hold down the fort in net until the playoffs.
Andersen currently has a 35-14-3 record with a .922 save percentage in 52 games this season, while Raanta has a 14-5-4 record with a .913 save percentage in 27 games for the Hurricanes. They’ve been a large reason why the Hurricanes currently rank first in the league in goals against per game, making them the frontrunners for the William M. Jennings Trophy, as well as third in the league in team save percentage in all situations at .913, and seventh in team save percentage at 5v5 with a .923.
