Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Jaccob Slavin wins Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Jaccob Slavin has been named the winner of the Lady Byng Trophy.
He ran away with the title garnering 73 of 100 first-place votes. Auston Matthews received the second-most first-place votes with eight, landing him third in voting, while Jared Spurgeon’s 17 second-place votes landed him second.
The award is annually handed out to “the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.”
Slavin averaged the most ice time on the Hurricanes (22:59) club that allowed the fourth-fewest goals against per game (2.39). All year, he only took one penalty, a delay of game call for flipping the puck over the glass.
