The Carolina Hurricanes made a few depth signings on the first day of free agency, re-signing winger Jordan Martinook and signing winger William Carrier and center Tyson Jost.

Martinook re-signs with the Canes to a three-year contract with a $3.05 million cap hit, according to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman. He was an unrestricted free agent after the conclusion of his three-year deal with a $1.8 million cap hit with the Canes.

Martinook had 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 82 games with the Canes last season, which was his second-straight season with 30+ points after never eclipsing more than 25 previously in his career. He also had 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 11 games as the Canes were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs in six games by the New York Rangers.

Carrier signs with the Canes to a six-year deal with a cap hit of $2 million, according to Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli. He was a UFA after the conclusion of his three-year deal with a $1.8 million cap hit with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Carrier missed a large chunk of the season with an upper-body injury, only playing 39 games for the Golden Knights where he had 6 goals, 2 assists and 8 points. He also had 1 goal in 7 playoff games as Vegas was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Dallas Stars.

The Canes also signed Tyson Jost, getting him at a much smaller deal of one-year, $775,000, according to TSN insider Darren Dreger. Jost was a UFA after finishing his one-year, $2 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Jost is coming off his worst season to date at the NHL level, where he had just 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in 43 games played. It’s a new career low, beating out his previous worst season in 2020-21 where he had 17 points in 54 games played.
