The Carolina Hurricanes announced Friday that the club has signed left winger Eric Robinson to a four-year contract extension that carries a $1.7-million average annual value.

Through 82 appearances with the Hurricanes this season, the 30-year-old native of Bellmawr, N.J., tallied 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points coupled with 10 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating. Robinson then added another three points counting one goal and two assists in 15 playoff outings.

“It’s no surprise to us that Eric had his best professional season last year with Carolina,” Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky said in a statement. “His size and speed make him an excellent fit for the way we want to play, and we are thrilled that he’s chosen to remain a Hurricane.”

Robinson was on a one-year pact that carried a $950,000 cap hit, according to PuckPedia, and could have become an unrestricted free agent as of July.

A veteran of 388 career contests counting stops with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, and Hurricanes, Robinson has collected 54 goals and 69 assists for 123 career points. Robinson’s 32 points this season were a career-high, a five-point increase from his previous career-best set with the Blue Jackets in 2021-22. Robinson’s career also counts four points through 25 total appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

A graduate of the NCAA’s Princeton Tigers, Robinson originally signed with the Blue Jackets in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. With the Tigers, Robinson notched 67 points counting 39 goals and 28 assists over four seasons and 128 total appearances. Robinson also registered 24 points in 50 games in a lone season with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints in 2013-14.

With Robinson now signed, Tulsky and the Hurricanes can turn their attention to other pending unrestricted free agents, a list which includes fellow forwards Tyson Jost and Jack Roslovic as well as defensemen Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov, per PuckPedia.
