Carolina Hurricanes sign forward Nick Shore to pro tryout
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Nick Shore to a professional tryout agreement, Hurricanes.com correspondent Walt Ruff reported Tuesday evening.
Shore, 30, last played in the NHL during the 2019–20 season, collecting three goals and six points in 63 games split between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets. He did not record a point in four playoff contests with the Jets in 2020.
The Hurricanes have now signed four players to professional tryouts ahead of their 2023 training camp opening in September. Before adding Shore, the Hurricanes had inked defenseman Nathan Beaulieu and forwards Cory Conacher and Brendan Perlini to PTOs.
Drew Shore, Nick’s older brother, previously appeared in four games with the Hurricanes during the 2020–21 season.
The Los Angeles Kings originally selected Nick Shore in the third round (No. 82 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The 6′ right-handed center made his NHL debut with the Kings during the 2014–15 season.
Shore topped out with 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in 64 games in the 2017–18 season, which he split between three different teams.
After starting out with the Kings, Shore was dealt to the Ottawa Senators as part of the blockbuster Dion Phaneuf/Marian Gaborik trade ahead of the 2018 deadline; Shore appeared in just six games with the Senators before being flipped to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2019 seventh-round draft pick.
Shore spent the 2018–19 season in the Kontinental Hockey League before returning to the NHL in 2019–20. Then, after that one season with the Maple Leafs and Jets, Shore returned to Europe and played in Slovakia, Switzerland, Siberia, and Sweden between 2020 and 2023.
During his time overseas, Shore was eligible to represent the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He picked up an assist in three games as Team USA finished in fifth place.
Through 299 career NHL games over parts of five seasons with the Kings, Senators, Flames, Maple Leafs, and Jets, Shore has collected 18 goals and 59 points. He’s been held without a point in five career playoff contests.
