Hurricanes sign Taylor Hall to three-year extension

The Carolina Hurricanes are locking down a recently acquired scoring threat for the next three seasons.
On Wednesday, general manager Eric Tulsky announced the team is signing forward Taylor Hall to a three-year contract extension worth $3.16 million per season.
“Taylor has proven to be an outstanding fit for our team, and we are thrilled that he is excited to make Raleigh his home for another three seasons,” Tulsky said in a team statement. “He’s been a solid veteran presence in the locker room and a difference maker on the ice.”
Hall is currently in the final season of the four-year contract he signed as a member of the Boston Bruins in July 2021. That deal has a cap hit of $6 million, which had a modified no-trade clause for the final three years.
The 33-year-old arrived in Raleigh as a smaller piece of the blockbuster trade that saw Mikko Rantanen go from the Colorado Avalanche to the Hurricanes. Hall was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks before the trade, and previously stated that he wanted to stay in the Windy City.
The 2010 first-overall pick posted 18 points in 31 games regular season games in Carolina to go along with 24 points in 46 games in Chicago. He also has three points in five games as the Hurricanes have advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Calgary native has bounced around the league for the past few years. After a few fruitful seasons with the New Jersey Devils, in which Hall won the Hart Trophy in 2017-18, he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes during the 2019-20 season. From there, he made a quick stop with the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to the Bruins in April 2021, and later dealt to the Hawks in June 2023.
In 909 NHL appearances, Hall has scored 284 goals and 455 assists for 739 points. He also has 32 points in 44 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
