Even if the Hurricanes get swept, Rod Brind’Amour’s job should be safe

A lot has been made about the Carolina Hurricanes struggles in the Conference Finals, as they’ve now lost 14 straight games beyond the second round since their Stanley Cup win in 2006. That discussion has particularly elevated in the wake of back-to-back home losses to the Florida Panthers so far in the East Final, not just by them happening but by the nature of the losses, dropping them by a combined score of 10-2.
Should the Canes lose both games in Florida, they’ll be swept in the Conference Finals for the fourth time since their Cup win, and it will be their third time with Rod Brind’Amour as the head coach of the team. Is his job suddenly at stake if the Hurricanes find themselves without a win in this series again?
Frank Seravalli talked about Brind’Amour and whether or not his job with the Hurricanes will be at risk in the event of another sweep on Daily Faceoff Live.
Frank Seravalli: The answer is Rob Brind’Amour has a job for life in Carolina. I don’t think he’ll work anywhere else to be quite honest.
And with that, I truly believe that the Carolina Hurricanes organizational thought is even if they don’t have success this time around, remember, this was supposed to be a relative step back year. They let a lot of guys go. The Metropolitan Division is relatively weak. Let’s see how many times we can get to the Eastern Conference Final, and maybe one of these years we’ll break through to the Cup Final and win.
That’s the thought. I can’t even say that it’s a bad thought because you’re getting to the Final Four many times. Chances are, you’ll find a way one of those years, and the team coming out of the Atlantic won’t be as good.
