After a summer of rumors and an announcement and teaser last week, the Carolina Hurricanes unveiled their new away jersey on social media on Wednesday.

The look is inspired by the jersey the team wore in its Stadium Series game in 2023, featuring the team’s traditional logo stylized in entirely red and black with no white.

One shoulder patch features the North Carolina state flag, while the other is the team’s mascot Stormy, reimagined as a vintage-style collegiate logo, a nod to the Triangle region’s deep ties to college athletics.

The sleeves feature a red block and a black block with no intervening white. The font for the numbers on the arms is black, while it is red for the nameplate and numbers on the back of the jersey.

The new look will replace the team’s previous away uniform, which was a white jersey with sublimated hurricane warning flags along the bottom with a diagonal “CANES” word mark serving as the logo.

Since that uniform was debuted, Carolina’s home, away and alternate jerseys have all featured different crests. The diagonal “CANES” jersey debuted in 2019 replacing a more traditional white jersey with a red shoulder yolk that debuted as part of a massive overhaul in 2013.

The Hurricanes have defied their own aesthetic convention frequently for years now. Since the organization re-located to Raleigh from Hartford in 1997, the team has worn red as its primary colored uniform. Before the 2022-2023 season, they swapped their alternate black jersey to be the primary home and moved the red to the alternate spot.

The new away jerseys, along with like-branded merchandise, are now available for purchase at CarolinaProShop.com.

The Hurricanes are slated to start their season with a pair of games on home ice, so the new look will make its regular season debut against the San Jose Sharks on October 14.
