Chantal Kreviazuk changes O Canada lyrics at 4 Nations Face-Off final

Anthem-gate has taken a different angle before the biggest hockey game in recent memory.
During the pregame festivities before the 4 Nations Face-Off final between the United States and Canada, Grammy-award-winning singer Chantal Kreviazuk altered a line of “O Canada” that caught many by surprise, though it was by design.
Instead of saying “in all of us command,” the Winnipeg native sang “that only us command.”

— Larry Brown Sports (@larrybrownsport) February 21, 2025It wasn’t an accident. Kreviazuk posted a photo on her Instagram story featuring the changed lyric written on her hand. According to the report from CBC News, it was confirmed the switch was intentional in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s constant dialogue about annexing Canada.
The latest incident in regard to the performances of national anthems in North America saw the partisan crowd at TD Garden boo much of the Canadian anthem. It comes after weeks of events where the “Star Spangled Banner” was met with jeers across Canada, nevermore so than last Saturday night in Montreal.
The act of booing the U.S. anthem has been going on for the last couple of weeks due to Trump’s annexation verbiage, musing that the border nation should become America’s “51st state.” Also, Canadian citizens have not taken too kindly to the proposed 25 percent tariff on all Canadian goods by his administration.
One thing that wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card was Trump’s role in the 4 Nations Face-Off. Team USA general manager Bill Guerin went on American television asking for the president to appear at Thursday night’s championship game. While it was revealed he wouldn’t be able to attend, Trump called the U.S. team the morning of the final.
