Chicago Blackhawks fire assistant general manager, vice-president of amateur scouting
The Chicago Blackhawks fired two long-time executives Friday in the first significant moves made under new permanent general manager Kyle Davidson.
Both Ryan Stewart, the clubs’ assistant general manager, and vice-president of amateur scouting Mark Kelley have been let go.
According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, director of player personnel Mike Doneghey will oversee amateur scouting.
The pair had been members of the organization for 16 seasons dating back to the 2006-07 season. Stewart, 47, got his start with the club as a video coach, a role he held for one season, before serving as both an amateur scout and pro scout, also working as the director of professional scouting from 2012-13 through 2018-19, before spending the 2019-20 as the director of player development. He was promoted to assistant general manager ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Kelley, meanwhile, got his start as an amateur scout with Chicago, a role he held for two years. In 2008-09, he was promoted to director of amateur scouting, a role he held for the remainder of his tenure.
