Blackhawks’ Jason Dickinson exits game versus Oilers with injury
The Chicago Blackhawks announced that forward Jason Dickinson will not return to Wednesday’s game versus the Edmonton Oilers following an injury.
The injury took place in the second period when Oilers forward Vasily Podkolzin and Dickinson became tangled up and Dickinson fell awkwardly to the ice.
The veteran forward needed help off the ice and was unable to put weight on his left leg.
An update from the Blackhawks should come post-game or on Thursday.
UPDATE: Jason Dickinson will not return to tonight's game.
— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) February 6, 2025The 29-year-old has tallied seven goals and nine assists for 16 points in 52 games this season with Chicago.
Last January, the Blackhawks re-signed Dickinson to a two-year contract extension with a $4.25 million cap hit.
The Georgetown, Ontario native had a career-high year during the 2023-24 season notching 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points. It’s the first time Dickinson had hit double digits in goals in a season and surpassed his previous career-high of 30 points achieved in 2022-23.
Dickinson was a former 29th-overall selection by the Dallas Stars in the 2013 NHL Draft, and he spent seven seasons in the Stars organization before his restricted free agent signing rights were dealt to the Vancouver Canucks in 2021. After one season there, he was dealt to the Blackhawks in a cap dump, where he’s since spent the past three seasons.
Dickinson was vocal in the media last month during Blackhawks’ struggles, “You felt like things were changing,” Dickinson said. “All of a sudden, it feels worse than it ever has. It’s probably because there was hope, there was a reason to be excited about what we were doing, and all of a sudden, it’s now been three embarrassing losses.”
Chicago sits last in the Central Division and second last in the league standings ahead of the San Jose Sharks by one point.
