The Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Rem Pitlick on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Wednesday.

Pitlick, 26, has zero points in nine games with the Blackhawks this season, although he did score a shootout goal against the San Jose Sharks on January 16. He’s under contract through the end of the 2023–24 season at a $1.1 million cap hit.

The Blackhawks originally acquired Pitlick from the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 6 in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Pitlick was the only player placed on waivers on Wednesday. Chicago’s Luke Philp and the New York Rangers’ Tyler Pitlick (Rem’s cousin) cleared waivers earlier on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nashville Predators originally selected Pitlick in the third round (No. 76 overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. The Ottawa, Ontario product spent the following three years at the University of Minnesota before making his pro debut with the Predators at the end of the 2018–19 season.

Pitlick appeared in 11 games with the Predators before being claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Wild, with whom he scored six goals and 11 points in 20 games during the 2021–22 season. He finished that season with the Montreal Canadiens and collected 15 goals and 37 points in 66 games with the two teams in 2021–22.

After scoring 15 more points in 46 games with the Canadiens in 2022–23, Pitlick was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins the following summer as part of the three-way Erik Karlsson deal. Pitlick never appeared in a game with Pittsburgh before being sent to Chicago last month.

Through 132 career NHL games over parts of five seasons with the Predators, Wild, Canadiens, and Blackhawks, Pitlick has collected 21 goals, 54 points, and 54 penalty minutes. He has yet to make his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.
