Boston Bruins forward Cole Koepke has been a shining light for a Bruins squad that has got off to a 3-2-1 start through the first six games.
Koepke, who joined the Bruins as a free agent after spending a few years in the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, has notched three goals and three assists for six points in six games.
The 26-year-old played 9 games with the Lightning in the 2023-24 season, registering two assists on the year. He spent more time in the AHL with the Bolts’ minor league affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, where he had 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in 53 regular season games.
Today on Daily Faceoff LIVE, Colby Cohen and Tyler Yaremchuk chat about Koepke’s hot start in Boston.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Who is your weekend warrior?
Colby Cohen: Yeah, so I’m going to go with a guy that a lot of people are probably not super familiar with, Cole Koepke. He played in Tampa Bay for the last couple of years, but not in a full-time role. And I had to look up the exact numbers, but a couple of years ago he played 17 games and he had one point, okay? Last year, nine games, and two assists. He started the season out with the Boston Bruins. His minutes, you’re seeing them there on the board, 10-43 a game. He’s got six points. He’s playing on the third or the fourth line, he hits everything that moves, a north-south player.
Colby Cohen: When you have a guy like this at the bottom of your lineup, chipping in, he scores a goal against Utah the other night. I think it was the only goal for the Boston Bruins and an eventual loss. But when you start getting these types of contributions from honest, blue-collar north-south hockey players, it can really help your team. So good for him. To me, his season and his weekend make him my weekend warrior.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Yeah, three goals in six games back-to-back goals or games with a goal over the weekend you love seeing those stories of a sixth-round pick who finds a way to get to the NHL so yeah six round pick of Tampa all the way back in 2018 and it looks like he has found a home in Boston.
