The Edmonton Oilers have added some goaltending depth, signing Collin Delia to a one-year, $775,000 deal.

Delia will serve as a replacement for Jack Campbell, who signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

The move marks the third different Canadian franchise Delia has signed with in the past three years. The Rancho Cucamonga, California native played 32 games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose in 2023-24, going 11-19-1 with a .872 save percentage. It was his first year solely in the AHL since 2019-20, back when he was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

A free agent signing out of Merrimack College after the 2016-17 season, Delia played in two NHL games with the Blackhawks in 2017-18 while mainly playing with Rockford. He bounced around between the NHL and AHL for a few years before eventually signing with the Canucks in 2022-23. Delia played a career-high 20 NHL games that year, going 10-6-2 with a save percentage of .882.

While Delia doesn’t appear to be part of Edmonton’s NHL plans, having an experienced veteran in Bakersfield is a good fit. Delia has 153 games of AHL experience over seven years, as well as another 52 games at the NHL level. While he has struggled to stay consistent in both league, he does have more wins than losses and can give the Condors a fighting chance, at least.

With Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard both signed to deals in the NHL, look for Delia to split time in the AHL with Olivier Rodrique while Connor Ungar goes to the ECHL. Delia’s NHL experience could make him an injury call-up if needed while playing at the league minimum.
