Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon has been named the 2024 winner of the Ted Lindsay Award.

MacKinnon, 28, set new career highs with 51 goals, 89 assists, and 140 points in 82 games with the Avalanche during the 2023-24 regular season. The Halifax, Nova Scotia product added four goals and 14 points in 11 games with the Avs in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Ted Lindsay Award is presented each year to the league’s most outstanding player in the regular season, as voted upon by members of the National Hockey League Players’ Association. Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov and Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews were the other two finalists for the award.

MacKinnon is the second player in Avalanche history to win the award after Joe Sakic in 2001. The 6′, 200-pound forward was also named a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy, which is the MVP award voted upon by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

The Avalanche originally selected MacKinnon with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. The star forward won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2014 as the league’s top rookie and also captured the Lady Byng Memorial Award in 2020 as the league’s most gentlemanly player.

MacKinnon had never won the Ted Lindsay Award before this year, although he was named one of the three finalists in 2020. He was also named a finalist for the Hart Trophy in 2018, 2020, and 2021.

Beyond individual awards, MacKinnon won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Avalanche in 2022, helping the team prevail over the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games in that year’s Stanley Cup Final.

Through 791 career games over his 11 NHL seasons with the Avalanche, MacKinnon has collected 335 goals and 899 points. He’s added 48 goals and 114 points in 88 career playoff contests.
