The Columbus Blue Jackets have found some success in the last few weeks, winning six of their last eight games and holding a 7-5-0 record going into the first full week of November.

A lot of that credit goes to their goaltending duo of Elvis Merzlikins and Jet Greaves, who with six games each have a combined save percentage of .916. The pair also have a combined goals saved above average of 8.2.

Greaves, who has spent most of his professional career with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters, has only allowed more than two goals twice in his six starts. His 7.7 goals saved above expected ranks sixth among NHL netminders.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender discuss their respective “Man of the Weekend,” giving a shoutout to whom they think stood out from the end of the previous week, with Hutton giving a special shoutout to one of Columbus’ keepers of the crease.

Carter Hutton: I’m going to go with Jet Greaves. His last two outings have been unbelievable. The other night, he was rock solid against the Blues, making 37 saves in the 3-2 win.

Greaves is an undersized goalie, and you look at Juuse Saros and Dustin Wolf, you see the success of smaller guys. Columbus was a team that struggled to find solid goaltending, and this year they’re getting that.

When I think of that, I think about Elvis Merzlikins. He’s been great, as well, and having the right parity in net is going to be great. But Jet Greaves is turning into that stud. He’s made 35-plus saves in his last two wins, and he’s been a difference maker every time he’s been in the crease.

Columbus becomes an instant threat with this goalie duo.
