Columbus Blue Jackets place forward Eric Robinson on waivers
The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed forward Eric Robinson on waivers, the club announced Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jackets needed to waive a player to make room to activate forward Mathieu Olivier off the injured reserve list.
Robinson, 28, logged 11:30 of ice time and finished with a minus-1 rating in the Blue Jackets’ 4–2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
The Bellmawr, New Jersey product is under contract through the end of the 2023–24 season at a $1.6 million cap hit.
Robinson went undrafted into the NHL after spending the 2013–14 season with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints. He went on to play three seasons at Princeton University before signing an entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets in 2018.
After appearing in 14 games with the Blue Jackets over the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons, Robinson emerged as a regular with the club in 2019–20 and has seen his scoring output gradually increase throughout his tenure. Robinson scored 10 goals and 27 points in 67 games with Columbus in 2021–22; the following year, he managed 12 goals and 24 points in 72 games.
Through 260 career games over parts of seven seasons with the Blue Jackets, Robinson has collected 37 goals and 81 points. The 6’2″ forward added a goal in 10 playoff games with the club in 2020.
Olivier, who rejoins the Blue Jackets after missing the season opener with a leg injury, racked up five goals and 15 points in 66 games with the club in 2022–23. The Biloxi, Mississippi product is under contract for this year and next at a $1.1 million cap hit.
The Blue Jackets will look to improve upon their 0–1–0 record when they return to action on Saturday evening to take on the New York Rangers at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
