The Columbus Blue Jackets selected Russian netminder Pyotr Andreyanov with the 20th overall pick Friday OR Saturday at The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The pick originally belonged to the Minnesota Wild. However, Columbus received the spot in the deal that saw them send David Jiricek and a fifth-round pick to the Wild for Daemon Hunt and three other picks.

Andreyanov spent the 2024-25 season with the Krasnaya Armiya of the MHL, CSKA’s junior team in Russia. Andreyanov posted an impressive 23-6-6 record this season to go with a 1.75 goals against average and .942 save percentage and three shutouts.

Andreyanov was named the MHL Goaltender of the Month in both October and December and was also named to the MHL All-Star Game. He battled all year for the starter’s crease with Toronto Maple Leafs’ prospect Timofei Obvintsev.

Andreyanov is yet another player whose stock could have been higher had Russia had a chance to compete on the international stage at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s Championship or World Juniors.

The Volsk, Russia native is one of the more impressive skaters and athletes for a goalie. Andreyanov uses his strong footwork to explode across the crease and take away time and space from oncoming shooters. Andreyanov isn’t the biggest goalie at this year’s draft, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 207 pounds, and that will most likely hurt his stock during the draft. However, Andreyanov can use his lateral quickness and skating to his advantage.

Andreyanov ranked No.81 on Steven Ellis’ Final Top-120 Draft rankings.  “Andreyanov had a tremendous season against Russian junior competition, showing some flashes of high-end ability. His save percentage was above .940 for most of the season, and while his team did score a lot, he seemed to thrive when he faced more action. His glove hand is quick, he’s reactive when he needs to be, and he doesn’t get frazzled when he lets a goal in. Andreyanov’s lack of size won’t help him, though.
