The Winnipeg Jets are soaring at the top of the National Hockey League standings right now. Today on Daily Faceoff Live, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Jets’ success and how goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been lights out.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Winnipeg Jets don’t give up a lot of goals. It’s the normal now where they don’t give up a lot of goals, a shutout victory over the Blue Jackets last night. It’s now been 32 consecutive games for the Jets with three goals against or less and Connor Hellebuyck has been unbelievable, he’s let in three or more goals once since November 17th. After 18 straight games without allowing more than three goals, the Jets are dialled in and last night was another prime example.

Frank Seravalli: You have to go all the way back to November 2nd that’s the last time they gave up three-plus goals in a game. It’s January 10th, that’s an insane run in which teams have struggled with goaltending more so in the last two decades. Not only is Hellebuyck dialled in but the Jets have all sorts of support with the depth that they have, they continue to lead the league and division in points. This has been a special year for Winnipeg and we just didn’t see this coming. It was great that they got Scheifele and Hellebuyck locked up but how good could this team really be? They sneaked in the playoffs last year, year before that they missed and this team was kind of teetering on the edge of a quality team that can compete and nobody had them leading the league, that’s crazy.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Defensive low even hockey, they’re doing that very well. Hellebuyck has really helped them keep those numbers down. A handful of things are going their way, they’re getting goals from other sources as Kyle Connor is not in the lineup right now, Cole Perfetti scored twice recently, and Nik Ehlers is up to 16 goals this season. I feel like I’ve said this 100x but Kevin Cheveldayoff go get a Center man for this team and they might be near impossible to beat in the playoffs.
