The Dallas Stars desperately want to win the Stanley Cup, and are doing everything in their power to get over the hump for the first time since 1999.

Despite several deep runs into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the organization dismissed head coach Pete DeBoer from his role after being eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final for the second consecutive year.

Now they take on the offseason looking for a new face behind the bench, and seek someone they can be confident in to take them to the next step in their evolution.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli dove into whether veteran head coach Peter Laviolette could be the right fit in Dallas.

Yaremchuk: A whole bunch of names have been floating around. Are any of them getting smoky, or is it a lot of false alarms right now?

Seravalli: I think it’s a false alarm because it’s still relatively fresh. One name that I haven’t heard talked a lot about that would be an unbelievable fit in Dallas is Peter Laviolette.

He’s a guy who has had a ton of success early in his tenure with teams. [His] message, I think, gets a little bit stale, maybe even more quickly than most, but he has taken three different franchises to the Stanley Cup Final. You’re the Dallas Stars trying to get over the hump…that’s a guy who has found playoff magic and done it repeatedly to the point where it’s not an accident, and it’s not just the players, he most positively has a hand in that as well.

I’ve seen it up close and personal. I covered the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010 when they went on their run, and I was at the Stanley Cup Final when he took the Nashville Predators there. Of course, he won with the Carolina Hurricanes. I’m not making any predictions, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some smoke there at some point in the near future.
