Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram leaves game with injury, out 7-10 days
Arizona Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram left Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild after the second period with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
Ingram, 26, stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced over the first 40 minutes of Wednesday’s game at Mullett Arena before being replaced by Karel Vejmelka for the third period. Vejmelka allowed another goal in the final frame as the Coyotes lost 3–1 to the Wild on Wednesday evening.
After the game, Coyotes head coach André Tourigny confirmed that Ingram will miss seven to 10 days during his recovery process. The Coyotes are currently on a seven-game losing streak.
Through 35 games with the Coyotes this season, Ingram has a 17-13-2 record with five shutouts, a .912 save percentage, and a 2.76 goals-against average.
The Coyotes have four goaltenders signed to NHL contracts for the 2023–24 season: Ingram, Vejmelka, Matt Villalta, and Anson Thornton.
Villalta, 24, is the most likely candidate to be recalled by Arizona during Ingram’s absence. The AHL All-Star goaltender has a 22-11-1 record and a .913 save percentage in 34 games with the Tucson Roadrunners this season; he has yet to make his NHL debut.
The Coyotes occupied a playoff spot for much of the first half of the 2023-24 season but have since fallen out of the race as a result of their current seven-game losing streak. They now sit in 27th place in the NHL with a 23-25-4 record and 50 points through 52 games.
The Wild outshot the Coyotes 43-26 on Wednesday night. Logan Cooley scored the lone goal of the game for Arizona; Joel Eriksson Ek, Matt Boldy, and Jonas Brodin tallied for Minnesota, while Marc-André Fleury stopped 25 shots in the victory.
The Coyotes are slated to return to action on Friday night to take on the Carolina Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. MT.
