During Tuesday’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup matinee game between Germany and Czechia, Czech forward Adam Benák set a new scoring record after notching a hat trick and five points, putting him at 17 points in seven games. Benak notched two goals and eight assists for 10 points in five games during last year’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

The previous record was held by former No. 10 overall pick Magnus Paajarvi, who racked up 15 points in eight games through two tournaments.

Benák is a top prospect eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft. The 17-year-old is slated to suit up for the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the 2024-25 regular season.

Benák notched eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points in 29 games with HC Plzeň U20 in the Czechia U20 league. Benák appeared in 18 games in the Czechia Men’s League where he registered two assists. He also represented Czechia at the Under-18 Men’s tournament in the spring, notching three points in five games.

The Plzeň, Czechia product was listed as a featured player in Steven Ellis’s Top 20 2025 NHL Draft Prospects to watch at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. “Benák has been a standout at most international tournaments he has participated in, highlighted by his 10 points in five games at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup,” said Ellis.

“The skilled playmaker has already seen time with HC Plzen’s men’s team in the top Czech league and has proven time and time again he can dominate older competition. He’s the future of Czech hockey, as long as he can outgrow his 5-foot-7 frame. On skill alone, Benak is a top-10 prospect, and if he plays like he did last year, the Czechs could be in a good spot.”
