Daily Faceoff NHL DFS Value Plays — February 25th

Welcome to Daily Faceoff’s NHL DFS Value Plays, where five days a week from Monday to Friday, I break down hockey’s main slate, looking for the top value plays.
This value sheet includes salaries, projections for DraftKings and FanDuel for the top forward and defensemen values, as well as honourable mention forwards and three punt options for blue liners. While the main value plays look at spots to get different and their upside, the others revolve around their ability to produce peripheral points by taking shots and blocking them. These players are always live for the bonus on DraftKings, where all the value plays are directed for.
These projections don’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen. One game samples have too much randomness to pin down exact predictions. Instead, the projections represent a player’s average performance if that matchup was played repeatedly. There is a wide range of possible outcomes, and the projections represent each player’s average of those possibilities.
Mason Marchment (W, DAL2, PP2) – (DK-$4,500 / FD $6,500)
Projected points: DK – 8.7 / FD – 11.3
Marchment has played in six games since returning from a late December injury and it’s taking a bit of time for him to regain form. He’s put up two goals and 11 shots in these games, giving him a floor to work with. Four of those shots came in their Sunday game against the Islanders, and he and his linemates on Dallas’ second line will have a good matchup tonight against the Blue Jackets.
Barrett Hayton (C, UTA2, PP1) — ($4,400 / $5,900)
Projected points: 7.9 / 10.3
There must something be in the water in Utah, and something good, because Barrett Hayton is on a tear. He’s scored eight goals and 15 points in his last 20 games, while taking 9.7 shots on goal per hour of ice-time. Over his last 10 he’s averaging 7.5 DraftKings points per game that included a 37.3 point hat-trick performance against the Kings over the weekend. He’ll look to stay hot in a great matchup against the Blackhawks.
Jackson LaCombe (D, ANA-1, PP1) — ($4,200 / $5,900)
Projected points: 9.2 / 11.7
Some pricing changes on DraftKings has certainly had it’s mark, as we’re finding less cheap defencemen who are viable. It’s forcing us into a mid-range salary area for value plays, and LaCombe fits this bill. He’s got a great floor with 6.8 shots on goal per hour and 4.6 blocks, and he’s finding ways to chip in offence, too, with a goal and seven points in his last 10 games.
Jake Middleton (D, MIN-1) — ($3,700 / $5,200)
Projected points: 8.4 / 10.7
Middleton’s another one of these solid mid-range guys. More of his value comes from blocks, getting in front of 5.9 per hour over his last 20 games. Look for him to push for the block bonus tonight against a Red Wings team who have the third most shots on goal per hour over their last 10.
Honourable mention forwards
- Elmer Soderblom (W, DET3) — ($2,700/$3,900) — Projected points: DK – 6.0 / FD – 8.1
- Noah Cates (C, PHI1, PP2) — ($4,200/$5,000) — 6.7 / 8.7
Top Punt Defensemen
- Adam Pelech (NYI-2) — ($3,700/$4,800) — Projected points: DK – 7.6 / FD – 9.6
- Owen Power (BUF-2, PP2) — ($4,300/$5,500) — 8.9 / 11.4
