Daily Faceoff NHL DFS Value Plays — November 12th
Welcome to Daily Faceoff’s NHL DFS Value Plays, where five days a week from Monday to Friday, I break down hockey’s main slate, looking for the top value plays.
This value sheet includes salaries, projections for DraftKings and FanDuel for the top forward and defensemen values, as well as honourable mention forwards and three punt options for blue liners. While the main value plays look at spots to get different and their upside, the others revolve around their ability to produce peripheral points by taking shots and blocking them. These players are always live for the bonus on DraftKings, where all the value plays are directed for.
These projections don’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen. One game samples have too much randomness to pin down exact predictions. Instead, the projections represent a player’s average performance if that matchup was played repeatedly. There is a wide range of possible outcomes, and the projections represent each player’s average of those possibilities.
Jaden Schwartz (W, SEA2, PP2) – (DK-$2,900 / FD $4,400)
DFO Projection: DK – 7.2 / FD – 9.5
It hasn’t been a tremendous start to the season for Jaden Schwartz, but he’s put up three goals and eight points in 15 games so far. He may not have the volume he did in years past from a shots perspective, but he’s popping in the DFO projections tonight in thanks to solid matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He projects as the top play from a points per $1,000 perspective and costs next to nothing.
Elias Pettersson (C, VAN2, PP1) – ($5,600 / $6,100)
DFO Projection: DK – 12.3 / FD – 16.4
Pettersson projects as the top value forward on tonight’s slate thanks to a favourable matchup with the Calgary Flames. He’s not shooting the puck much, but is still generating high-quality chances. Another plus is he’s had success against the Flames in his past, scoring 12 goals and 27 points in 27 games.
Ryan Pulock (D, NYI-1, PP2) ($4,200 / $5,000)
DFO Projection: DK – 7.3 / FD – 9.2
Few blue liners are playing as many minutes as Ryan Pulock as of late, with him averaging 26:35 of ice time across his last five games. With Adam Pelech, Alexander Romanov and Mike Reilly still out, Pulock will continue to munch minutes and will do so against a high-volume Edmonton Oilers team tonight. He’s got solid block volume, with 5.5 per hour of ice time this season, and will be live for the bonus and then some tonight.
Justin Faulk (D, STL-2, PP2) ($4,400 / $5,100)
DFO Projection: DK – 9.0 / FD – 11.5
Faulk, too, is seeing some elevated minutes, and while his point production hasn’t been there much this season, he’s got strong shot and block volume, and gets minutes on the top power play unit.
Honourable mention forwards
- Jake DeBrusk (W, VAN2, PP2) ($3,500/$4,900): DK – 8.5 / FD – 11.0
- Jeff Skinner (W, EDM1, PP2) ($4,100/$5,700): DK – 7.9 / FD – 10.3
- Dmitri Voronkov (W, CBJ2, PP2) ($3,000/$3,900): DK – 6.8 / FD – 8.7
Top Punt Defensemen
- Gustav Forsling (FLA-1) ($3,800/$5,300): DK – 7.7 / FD – 9.9
- Travis Hamonic (OTT-3) ($2,900/$3,700): DK – 5.4 / FD – 6.6
- Jacob Trouba (NYR-2) ($4,500/$5,500): DK – 7.8 / FD – 9.7
