Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/19/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Chicago Blackhawks (@ PHI) ML +206

Similar to the Anaheim Ducks bet from the other evening, the model has a hard time seeing the Flyers as -233 favourites, regardless of their opponent. The model looks at Chicago as +125 favourites, so there’s value on them at +206.

1 Unit Bet: CHI +206

Montreal Canadiens (vs. FLA) ML +207

Montreal is coming off an impressive win over the red-hot Winnipeg Jets but are +207 road underdogs vs. the Panthers on Thursday. Sam Montembeault is playing outstanding hockey, posting a .946 SV% in his last five starts. The model sees Montreal as +167 underdogs, so getting them at +207 represents great value.

1 Unit Bet: MTL +207

Vegas Golden Knights (vs. DET) ML -161

The Golden Knights have had some tough games recently but face the struggling Red Wings on Thursday. Detroit has lost three in a row and 13 of their last 18 (5-10-3) while averaging 2.9 goals for and 3.9 goals against per game. The model loves the Golden Knights tonight, listing them as overwhelming -255 favourites. Scoop the -161.

2 Unit Bet: VGK ML -161

Dallas Stars (@ LAK) ML +118

The Stars had a disappointing loss in San Jose last night after leading 3-0. They draw a more difficult matchup tonight in Los Angeles, but the Kings will be without Trevor Moore, Arthur Kaliyev, and Gabe Vilardi. They’re still -130 home favourites, so the model loves the Stars at +118.

1 Unit Bet: DAL +118

Staying Away 🚫

St. Louis Blues (vs. NSH)

The model has been recommending the Blues a lot lately, with very few wins. With so many key injuries, we’ll avoid the Blues until they start getting healthy.

Seattle Kraken (vs. NJD)

Seattle has had a brutal schedule recently. They returned from a long road trip to host the Lightning, went to Edmonton the next night and are now back in Seattle to host the Devils, who have been off since Monday. This just looks like too tough of a spot, plus they’ll be without Jaden Schwartz and Justin Schultz.
