Welcome to Daily Faceoff’s daily NHL roundup where we bring you the NHL’s most important news and rumours every day.

Carcillo gets magical

There have been few in the NHL to be as outspoken on the effects football can have on a person’s mental health than Daniel Carcillo. The former enforcer in the league has detailed his battles with depression and anxiety, and now, he says magic mushrooms helped to save him.

Here’s an excerpt from the St. Catherines Standard of a Dave Feschuk article:

“I was lost. I was lost in life,” he was saying in a recent interview. “Nobody really wanted to hang out with me. I could tell I was a burden to my family. I didn’t want my kids to learn how to grow up seeing the way I was acting. I just thought it might be better for me to be gone.”

But 13 months ago, he got a call from a former teammate who suggested an unconventional option. At the former teammate’s urging, Carcillo got on a plane to a location he won’t disclose to undergo a treatment that he says saved his life.

Carcillo was administered what’s known as a “hero dose” of psilocybin, an ancient psychedelic plant medicine commonly known as magic mushrooms. And though he described the experience as challenging — a hallucinogenic exploration of the darkest corners of his psyche — he says the after-effects have been remarkable.

The suicidal thoughts have left his head. The symptoms that made post-NHL life difficult have largely subsided. In short, he says he’s never been better.

“I’m doing phenomenally well,” Carcillo said. “I’m living my best life right now.”

Kane or Lehner vs. Jake Paul?

A famous YouTuber named Jake Paul has recently dabbled into the world of boxing in some fights. His first came in 2018 against another YouTuber, KSI, but he then turned professional and has since fought in two professional fights.

His most recent came Saturday night when he fought former NBA player Nate Robinson in the undercard on the Mike Tyson vs. Ray Jones Jr. match. While Paul won by knockout, it sparked a conversation on hockey Twitter.

The jeers began here with a bit of a back and forth between Kane and Lehner, before Lehner issued a rather blunt challenge to Paul.

In a year as crazy as 2020, who knows what can happen. Kane has dropped the mitts 21 times over his 11-year career and is a tough customer, while Lehner himself has a background in mixed martial arts.
