Dallas Stars acquire goaltender Scott Wedgewood from Arizona Coyotes
The Dallas Stars have made a move in goal.
The club acquired goaltender Scott Wedgewood from the Arizona Coyotes late Sunday night in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2023. The NHL Network’s Kevin Weekes was first to report the trade.
That fourth-round pick can escalate to a third-round pick if the Stars make the playoffs, The Dallas Morning News’ Matthew DeFranks reports.
Wedgewood, 29, now joins his third team of the 2021-22 campaign. He started the year with the New Jersey Devils before the ‘Yotes claimed him in early November.
He played three games with the Devils, going 0-2-1 with a .880 save percentage, but has turned his season around quite nicely with the Coyotes. In 26 games in the desert, he’s posted a 10-12-2 record, a .911 save percentage, a 3.16 GAA and has saved 2.5 goals above average.
For the Stars, meanwhile, the move secures their goaltending position all the while not giving up much in terms of assets going the other way. Braden Holtby is currently considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
