Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment out with lower-body injury
Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment suffered a lower-body injury late in the team’s 5–2 win over the Seattle Kraken on Monday, Stars head coach Peter DeBoer told reporters on Tuesday.
Marchment, 27, left the game with just 4:25 to play in the third period and did not return. Although the Stars will take on the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, DeBoer said Marchment flew back to Dallas for further evaluation.
On July 13, 2022, the Stars signed Marchment to a four-year contract carrying a $4.5 million annual cap hit. The six-foot-four winger has 12 goals and 31 points in 67 games with the Stars this season.
Marchment began his professional career in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, starting out with the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies late in the 2015–16 season before appearing in four games with the Leafs in 2019–20.
In a trade with the Florida Panthers on Feb. 19, 2020, the Maple Leafs sent Marchment packing in exchange for center Denis Malgin. While Malgin never really found his footing in Toronto, Marchment eventually exploded for 18 goals and 47 points in 54 games with the Panthers in the 2021–22 season.
Through 158 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs, Panthers, and Stars, Marchment has collected 32 goals and 89 points. He’s added three goals in 10 playoff contests (all with Florida).
The Stars are slated to take on the Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver at 9:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday evening. Rookie goaltender Matt Murray (no, not that one) is expected to start in goal for Dallas in the game.
