Stars’ Jamie Benn fined for roughing Jets’ Mark Scheifele

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Friday that Dallas Stars’ forward Jamie Benn has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), for roughing Winnipeg Jets’ forward Mark Scheifele late in Game 5 in their second-round, best-of-seven series.

The incident occurred late in the third period of the Jets’ 4-0 win over the Stars. During a scrum near the Stars’ bench, Benn punched Scheifele while wearing his glove, sending the Jets’ forward to the ice.

Benn received a 10-minute misconduct and a two-minute minor during the play. Schiefele also received a two-minute minor, as did Winnipeg forward Brandon Tanev. Dallas wound up with a power play.
Through 12 playoff games, Benn has one goal and two assists for three points and 24 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, Scheifele has four goals and six assists for 10 points in 10 playoff games with the Jets.
Dallas has been the dominant team for most of the series, taking a 3-1 lead before losing Thursday. In this series alone, Mikko Rantanen has four goals and three assists for seven points, while Michael Granlund, thanks to a hat trick in Game 4, has five points of his own.
For Winnipeg, Nikolaj Ehlers has five goals and an assist for six points, including two two-goal efforts in Games 2 and 5. Kyle Connor has a goal and three assists for four points.
Game 6 will be in Dallas on Saturday. If necessary, Game 7 heads back to Winnipeg on Monday.
