Dallas Stars loan Logan Stankoven to Texas AHL

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill announced today that the Stars have loaned rookie Logan Stankoven back to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Stankoven had three goals and one assist in his first four NHL games.

Stankoven made his highly anticipated NHL debut on Feb. 24 against the Carolina Hurricanes and led Stars forwards with three shots on goal in 15:20 time on ice. The next game, Stankoven scored his first NHL goal and picked up an assist while playing at home against the New York Islanders.

The Kamloops, British Columbia product is in his first professional season, Stankoven scored in his AHL debut on Oct. 13, 2023, vs. the Tucson Roadrunners and had seven points in his first four games with Texas. The 21-year-old ranks second in the AHL in points with 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points. He ranks fourth in the AHL in goals and sixth in assists.

Among AHL rookies, he ranks first in goals, assists and points. Stankoven recorded eight goals and 15 points in 10 games during the month of November, earning him AHL Rookie of the Mont In February, he joined teammates Mavrik Bourque and Matěj Blümel at the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose, California, representing the Central Division.

Stankoven is coming off an illustrious Western Hockey League (WHL) career with the Kamloops Blazers that saw him capture the WHL and CHL Player of the Year Awards in 2021-22 after tallying 104 points. Last season, Kamloops hosted the 2023 KIA Memorial Cup.

He notched 97 points in just 48 games after missing time playing for Team Canada at the World Juniors and sidelined with an injury. During the WHL Playoffs, Stankoven – despite being eliminated a round prior – still led the WHL with 10 goals and 30 points in 14 WHL Playoff contests. He added nine points in four Memorial Cup games.

Dallas sits first in the Central Division with a 36-17-9 record and 81 points through 62 games. The Stars face off against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday in which newly acquired Chris Tanev will make his Stars debut, watch for Stankoven to possibly be recalled pending the injury to forward Tyler Seguin.
