Dallas Stars center Mavrik Bourque will not be in the lineup Tuesday versus the Anaheim Ducks due to an upper-body injury, per Stars reporter Robert Tiffin.
Bourque’s injury came Sunday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets when he took a puck to the face. Bourque is considered day-to-day and will join a Stars’ injured reserve that already counts defensemen Miro Heiskanen and Nils Lundkvist as well as fellow forward Tyler Seguin.
Through 47 appearances with the Stars this season, Bourque has notched six goals and eight assists for 14 points alongside four penalty minutes and a minus-one mark. Originally chosen 30th overall by Dallas in the 2020 NHL Draft, Bourque spent the majority of last season with the club’s minor-league affiliate, the Texas Stars.
With Texas in 2023-24, Bourque led the team with north of point-per-game production counting 26 goals and 51 assists coming in 71 contests. The 23-year-old Plessisville, Que., native then added another three goals and eight assists for 11 points through seven postseason appearances. Last season, Bourque made his NHL debut with the Stars, seeing one regular season contest in addition to a lone playoff game.
An offensive force in the junior circuit, Bourque previously spent four seasons with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes, totaling 172 games in which he registered 93 goals and 143 assists for 236 points. In his final junior season, Bourque helped the Cataractes claim the Gilles-Courteau Trophy as playoff champions and was later presented with the Guy Lafleur Trophy as postseason MVP after he notched nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 16 playoff outings.
The Stars enter Tuesday’s contest against the Ducks riding a five-game win streak. On the season, the Stars sit 34-17-1 and second place in the Central Division with 65 points. The Stars have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in five of the past six seasons.
